Encaustic Painting Class with Doreen Nadolny

October 10th 10:00 AM-3:00 PM

Registration closes September 26th

Discover the beauty and depth of encaustic painting, an ancient art form dating back more than 2,000 years.

In this hands-on workshop, instructor Doreen Nadolny will introduce you to encaustic painting and guide you through techniques using a heated mixture of beeswax, damar resin (a natural tree resin) and pigment. Layers are painted onto the surface and fused with heat, creating the distinctive texture, depth and beauty of encaustic art.

You’ll have time to learn and practice these techniques while beginning your own 10” x 10” wooden panel.

Saturday, October 10th
10:00 AM–3:00 PM
30-minute lunch break
$160 per person

Your class fee includes all materials and instruction, including encaustic medium, brushes, a 10” x 10” wooden panel and use of the heating equipment needed to fuse the medium.

You’ll also receive a helpful reference sheet to take home for future practice.

No prior encaustic experience is necessary.

Important: Registration closes September 26, two weeks prior to the workshop

About the pictured artwork: The photograph is an example of a completed encaustic piece and demonstrates the beautiful effects that can be achieved with this technique. Encaustic artwork is built through multiple layers and can take several days to complete. During this workshop, you will begin your own piece and take it home as a work in progress to continue developing using the techniques you learn in class.
